tennis theology

i love tennis.  i love playing tennis, talking about tennis, reading about tennis, stringing tennis rackets, and just about everything related to tennis.  one of my favorite tennis players is serena williams.  everything about serena is bold.  her fashion sense, her game, and definitely her serve.  i think the part of serena williams that is the boldest is her attitude.  one of the reasons why i enjoy watching serena play is her attitude, her mindset.  i have never seen serena play a point that she didn't believe she should win.  if you youtube some of her earliest matches, you'll see a young woman who fully believed that she was the best player every time she stepped on the court.  this mindset has led to some moments of prideful statements after some loses, but when you look at women's tennis over the past 10 years, no woman has been able to defeat a moderately healthy serena williams (don't even talk about a 100% healthy serena).  the truth is serena's attitude affects the outcome of the match.  she wins because she starts every match believing she'll be the victor when she shakes her opponents hand.  she doesn't go into a match hoping to compete well.  she goes into a match believing she will walk of the court a champion (which most of the time she does, as her 13 grand slam trophies attest).  as Believers, we should have a similar mindset.  we might not have the talent of a serena, but we have the Creator King on our side.  we have been given victory.  it is our promise.  He has already won.  we need to start every day, every moment believing this truth.  we need to be bold.  we need to believe that we will win.  i'm not talking about physical possessions or health and wealth.  i am talking about meaningful victory.  we have been promised so much.  we know the King.  we get to make Him known, and we are promised that He will be made known to all people.  we need to get a little of that serena attitude.  we need to be champions
