love really does win... just not the way some think
if you've been on the internet in the past few weeks, i'm sure that you've seen, read or, heard about rob bell's new book love wins. i haven't read the book, but i've read several critiques and have seen "the interview" with martin bashir. from what i have heard, i'm not on the same page with what bell has to say in his book, but i do agree with his title love wins. the truth is Love does win. Love is the unbeatable force. it is the only thing that is worthy of being trusted. but, here's the deal. love isn't vague or unknowable. love does not exist with only an external focus. Love, true Love is a person. is God. is Jesus. to separate Love from the person of Christ is tantamount to cutting the smile out of the Mona Lisa and saying the painting hasn't changed. Love wins because Jesus won. Jesus won because he disregarded himself to do what the Father commanded for his namesake. not for people. for God. that is true Love. elevating that which alone is worthy of elevation. Love wins because it points to the only self-sufficient who in turn is sufficient for my insufficiencies. Love wins because Love is and Love is concerned with making itself known. and when you think about it trying to make Love more well known is a pretty loving thing to do. so we can see with great confidence:
